Free Literacy Lessons for residents in the Coroado Community

Following our PLUG IN model,  MAIS UM has managed its first PLUG IN! We have just connected the Community of Coroado with the Rotary Club and the literacy teacher Rebecca. With this connection the club and Rebecca joined our efforts to transform lives of the residents of Coroado Community and we co-created the educational project “Educar MaisUM” (Educate One More). The Rotary Club will provide materials for the students and costs support to Rebecca who will give literacy lessons in the Community Centre and encourage reflective and critical thinking for about 36 youth and adult residents.

Several evening classes will take place in the Community Centre on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 7-9 PM. The first session was held on the 6th of November and brought many interested people from the community. The residents came to meet their tutor and learned more about the course. The materials and homework will be handed in during the next class.

We would like to deeply thank the Rotary Club for their generosity and we wish lots of success to all learners!

Fundraising Games Afternoon for the Coroado Project

We would like to thank very much the MAIS UM friends who raised money during an afternoon games session for the Coroado Community held in London. A special thanks to the MAIS UM Paolo Rigutto who led this great initiative.

Thanks to the session, two hundred comic books were bought for the children from the Community. The comics will be included in a reading project that will be promoted in future MAIS UM activities. The Session will also help to fund parts of other activities in Coroado.

We hope the children will enjoy the reading!!!

Hello MAIS UMs!

The Childrens event this Tuesday 12 of October was a great Success!
150 children participated and 30 volunteers spent half of their bank holiday in workshops with them.
We created 5 workshops in the nearby school Araújo Pinho and children spent 3 hours with music, art and having a lot of fun.
We would like to deeply thank all volunteers who made it possible, from the ones who donated internationally to the volunteers who managed to be there in this children's day!

A special thanks for The Ludic Group (www.ludicgroup.com), the international business design company which sponsored the drawing and arts workshop for all children who took part on the event. Thank you very much for your sponsorship and guidance in creating the workshop.

To all, thank you so much!
