MAIS UM, together with the Community of Coroado, will transform the existing building of the Community of Coroado in a proper Community Centre. This Centre will be a flexible space where the people of Coroado can gather to make group activities and develop a number of projects together. There are a number of projects in the pipeline which are only waiting for the building to be completed. Examples of these activities are children's support lessons to help their performance at school and entrepreneurship-related lessons (such as learning how to craft, or basic finance) which will help generate extra income to locals.

Why a community Centre?
The Community of Coroado has a small "Dwellers Association" in community. Within an incomplete and structurally poor the building has a number of problems such as the lack of a completed roof and high humidity. These issues make the implementation of new projects - such as IT lessons - impossible even if there are volunteers and equipment for those since there are no ways to store equipment of class materials.

We are at an important stage in the Community where many projects gained momentum and are currently taking place. Started by MAIS UM or by the dwellers, they intend to improve children's performance at school and local entrepreneurs ability to generate income. But for other activities to take place, a new space is of crucial importance.
The Project
After intense consulting with the community in a number of meetings and small workshops, the architect Cely Monti consolidated the result of this collaborative effort in a unique project!

The Community Centre will have an internal "Reading Corner" with a small library for children in the community.
The "Entrepreneurs Corner" will contain cupboards, a table, stools and a number of materials for teaching crafts.
